Impressionist Oil Painter

Owner: Gwen Harris
Biography

Gwen Harris was born in San Jose, California in 1959 and has lived in the Bay Area most of her life. She attended Chico State University and reside’s with her husband Marty and four children. Gwen returned to Los Positas college, and in the process, revived her passion for art. She studied under the master painter, Bill Paskewitz for six years. Through study of art history, architecture workshops and travel, she has learned to appreciate the art world and the old masters. Her love for Europe and America has inspired many of her paintings, renewing her passion with each completion. Working mainly in oil, She uses a combination of pallet knife and brushwork, which gives interesting texture and blend of paint. Landscapes and cityscapes are her specialty. She continues to paint full time and is excited to make her work available.

Artist Statement

I have been painting and drawing my entire life and have such a passion for creating new art. I'm compelled to paint the places I've been, relying on the emotional ties I have with them. My camera is with me on every adventure, photographing anything I believe would make a great painting. An alley, vast open fields, interiors, the sea, architecture, people in everyday life, doing what they do. I love strong, bold color and can't resist my pallet knife often adding heavy texture to a scene. I work in layers, adding color upon color until the painting is complete and alive.

When I paint, I’m absorbed by the process, forgetting about the world around me. Painting is my passion, my calling and am forever grateful for this gift.
